Trogir, located between Sibenik and Split, which was founded in the 3rd century BC and is a true historical gem on a small island. Trogir is connected to the mainland by a bridge and is considered to be the most beautiful city in northern Dalmatia. Trogir has monuments from all periods, from Hellenistic, through ancient Rome, to the early and late Middle Ages. You can not but visit the Museum of the City of Trogir, where most of the finds bear witness to the rich history. Trogir is a "treasure trove of art" or a "city museum", says renowned historian Bernard Berenson. It is logical that such a place since the first appearance of modern tourism on the Croatian coast is one of the most interesting tourist destinations.

History and monuments

Tragurion today Trogir, a village founded by colonists from Greece, Since it became the province of Dalmatia - it became the eastern part of the Roman Empire. Trogir was ruled by the Byzantine emperor. Over time, Croats settled in the area, who started another page in the history of these areas. During the reign of the Croatian and Hungarian-Croatian kings, the village was granted autonomy in 1107. In 1420, the city was conquered by the Venetians, who settled here for almost 400 years. From the beginning of the 19th century pushes out the Romanian population and Trogir falls into Croatian hands. An almost intact center from the 13th to the 15th centuries, it is from the time representing the peak of social, economic, cultural and artistic power, around the Cathedral of St. Vavřinece is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Trogir is also nicknamed the city-museum. In addition to the already mentioned cathedral, the walls with the Kamerlengo fortress, the defense tower of St. Marka, Sea and Land Gate and a number of other valuable monuments.
