Tribunj

Croatia, Northern Dalmatia

Tribunj is originally a fishing village where live now 400 inhabitants. This resort is located near the holiday town of Vodice.
The oldest part of the village on the island was founded already in the 15th Century Over time, the village has expanded to the mainland and a bridge was built. In Tribunj you can visit the fish market, where tourists come to buy from the surrounding villages. The fishermen sell always fresh catch and you can also buy traditionel fisch soup with polenta.
Local sea is allegedly one of the cleanest in the Adriatic. Beautiful beaches are located in the direction to Vodice, northwest of the village and also on the adjacent islands. On 1st August  organizes the village the popular and very funny donkey race.

History and monuments

The original village was situated on a hill St. Mikula, was built on the summit medieval fortress Jurjevgrad. The village was founded in 1298 by the diocese of Sibenik and by the end of the 17th Century is called Jurjevgrad.
The old  village Tribunj was located on the island, which was later connected to the mainland by a stone bridge. The first record was the first time in 1463 under the name Tribohunj and later Trebic Trebiste, Trebunj, Tribohunj, Tribohum, Trebocconi.
At the beginning of the 20th Century, the remains of walls Jurjevgrad from the mid-17th Century was discovered. These walls were built during the Venetian domination  for defense against the Turks.
The Church of St. Nicholas was built the 15th Century and is surrounded by a cemetery. Located on a hill above the village, where once stood the fortress Jurjevgrad. The parish church of the Assumption (Velika Gospa) was built in 1883.
The village Tribunj was founded July 28th in 2006 by the separation of Vodice.

Swimming and beach Tribunj

The most popular beach in Tribunj is the beach Zamelin. Beautiful beaches are located in the direction to Vodice, northwest of the village and also on the adjacent islands. In the holiday resort Vodice, there are many attractions for children and adults on the beaches.

Cultural events and evening life

Cultural associations Tribunj is located in new premises of the renovated old church. It organizes programs to promote town development and cultural events and also offers a library, Internet center and a playground where they can find a variety of cultural events, performances, exhibitions and concerts.
Donkey races - traditionally on 1st August there are a very popular amusement with a long tradition which invite thousands of visitors. The route goes around the old core of the village on the island and the deredevil with his stubborn and almost uncontrollable donkeys, which lack of discipline brings many funny situations.
