History and monuments

On the territory of today's resort of Sv. Filip i Jakov in the ancient past (roughly 3 thousand years ago) there was a small Liburnian settlement, the remains of its walls and graves, from which the finds come, can be seen today in the Biograd museum on the sea. With the arrival of the Romans in the 1st century AD farm buildings and traditional villas for rest (villa rustica) were built for retired Roman soldiers. On the island of Frmić, which is located opposite the village of Sv. Filip and Jakov, are the remains of a Roman late antique water reservoir. Later, with the arrival of the Croats, this territory is acquired by St. Filip i Jakov in importance mainly due to the proximity of the royal city of Biograd na Moru. In the 12th century there was only a smaller church dedicated to St. Philip and Jakov, after whom the village was named. In the 15th century the first occurrence of the name "San Filip e Giacomodi Rogovo" is recorded. Today's old core of the resort was created during the 16th century. and for the most part the 17th century.
