Plitvice Lakes is the oldest national park in Croatia which was announced already in 1949 and covers an area of 296.9 square kilometers. Set of 16 major and several smaller lakes and 140 waterfalls. It is located 130 km south of Zagreb near the border with Bosna and Herzegovina. Lakes was created in the canyon of the river Korana and affluents: rivers Crna, Biela, Rjecica and Plitvica. Between and next the lakes are many paths and walkways. The ticket price included free bus along the eastern side of the canyon and boat trip on the lake Kozjak. Plitvice Lakes since 1979 as a World Natural Heritage UNESCO.
Around 200,000 tourists in the year visit park. To the Proscanski lake, the highest lake runs bus and at each stop you can get on and get off. In the center of the park is a lake Kozjak, through which runs a regular steamer.

History and monuments

The name Plitvice Lakes was first used in 1777 by priest Dominik Vukasovič. It was not until April 8, 1949 that the Plitvice Lakes National Park was founded, which was established to protect the unique cascade of lakes with an elevation of 156 m. The Plitvice Lakes National Park was included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979.
Until 1958, the territory of the Plitvice Lakes was inaccessible to tourists. In the spring of 1991, the area around Plitvice became the fateful site of the bloody Easter Battle, which was the first military conflict with casualties during the Yugoslav Civil War.
