History and monuments

The first mention of Igrane comes from the end of the 14th century. However, thanks to the sarcophagi found in the local cemetery, it is certain that the settlement already existed in Roman times. The most famous medieval monument is undoubtedly the church of St. Mihovila (Sveti Mihovil), originating from the 11th century or the baroque bell tower of the Church of Our Lady of Ružarij. The main landmark of the town is the kula Zale (Zalina tower) fortified tower from the 17th century, which rises at the highest point of Igrane. It was built during the Candian War, in which Zale Antičić distinguished himself, after whom the tower also got its name. Under the tower, which was built to defend against the Turks, there are old picturesque houses, typical of this area. Among other attractions, we recommend a visit to the baroque summer residence Šimić-Ivanišević in 1760. Nearby, near the Biokovo mountains, you can enjoy the atmosphere of a mountain village where the last inhabitants of this area live. Most of them have already moved from the mountains to the coast for a better livelihood, where they make a living mainly from agriculture, tourism and fishing.

Swimming and beach Igrane

In Igrane itself and its surroundings there are pebble beaches with a gradual entrance to the sea, lined with a promenade with exotic agaves. Pine forests offer pleasant refreshment and relaxation. Thanks to the gradual entrance to the sea, Igrane is suitable for families with small children.

Sports offer

The main beach mainly offers water sports such as windsurfing, boat rentals, paddle boats, jet skis. However, it also has excellent conditions for fans of an active holiday. You can play table tennis, mini golf or basketball here. Lovers of cycling will find something to their liking here. From Igrane, a moderately difficult route leads southeast to the resort of Živogošče on an asphalt road. From the small harbor or from the monastery in Igrane, a trail leads 1 km along the main road to the settlement of Mala Duba and from there, along the road along the sea to the bay of Velika Duba (campsite), where you will find tennis courts. Here you climb the stairs at the foot of the Matijaševica hill, and then you can continue towards the coast to Blato Bay, past the Blato and Dole campsites. At the Dole campsite, the trail turns onto the main road and a little later turns left onto the asphalt road to the village of Strnj. From Strnje, the old Napoleonic macadam road continues to the cemetery in Živogošći-Murav, then follows about 1 km on the asphalt road to the highway, where it then turns left in the village of Igrane along the road down to the coast.

Cultural events and evening life

The settlement of Igrane is rather a quieter place for your vacation. Pleasant relaxation is offered by local pubs and bars on the promenade. If you want to visit busier places or are attracted by night entertainment, we recommend, for example, the sought-after resorts of Makarská, Baška Voda or Brela.
