The small settlement Čaklje is a part of the holiday town Podgora, which lies in the southern part of Central Dalmatia. This area is very popular thanks to the amazing mountain Biokovo with the highest mountain of St. George (sv. Jure) and with mediterranean flora and fauna. Čaklje is a picturesque resort with several restaurants lined with palm grove, and is suitable for families with young children and for those who do not seek night hustle of big resort.

Practical information

Recommendation: do not leave valuables in the cars, do not carry them to the beach, lock the accommodation units and close the windows before you leave, follow the traffic rules, especially in smaller towns and drive cautiously when it rains.

History and monuments

On the village periphery to the southeast lies the modern church from 1962. Historical monuments are located in Horní Podgora and in settlements Roščići and Marinoviće where they are preserved towers, serving as a defense against the Turkish invasions in the 17th and 18 century.

We also recommend a visit the remains of the baroque castle of a patrician family Mrkušić, where because of the earthquake survived entrance gate to the park and then the octagonal chapel.

Above the harbor in the heart of town is situated the famous monument in the shape of the gull-wing based by R. Radović. Wing of seagull, croatian Galebova krila, are symbolizing the establishment of the Yugoslav Navy.

Swimming and beach Caklje - Podgora

Beautiful pebble beaches have slow access to the sea, so they are suitable for families with young children. Cultural events and evening life

The beach promenade from Podgora to Čakle is one of the most beautiful in Dalmatia. Along it you will find plenty of bars, pubs with seating by the sea, gift shops. In the center Čakle are several smaller restaurants for a pleasant stay. This small resort is recommended for a quiet holiday time.
