Orebić

Orebić is a town and a popular resort on the island of Pelješac. Orebić is located on the South-West coast at the foot of the mountain St. Ilije 961 m above sea level. It is situated by the chanel of Pelješac opposite the town of Korčula on the island of the same name, and they are connected by the ferry.

Orebić is known as the town of sailors as many of them were born here. The marine museum is the attraction for those who are interested in the sea.

History and monuments Orebić

The community of Orebić was founded at the end of 15^th and at the beginning of 16^th century on the land of the former Republic of Dubrovnik. The original name of the village was Trstenica which is now the name of the local creek, bay and football stadium. Orebić was named after a local noble family in 1586. Members of this family used to be important sea captains. They rebuilt the castle in the middle of the village and called it Orebić. From the 14^th until 19^th century it served as a seat of the priest and it was subordinated to the Republic of Dubrovnik.

Since the 17^th century boats from Pelješac have become more and more important for Dubrovnik. Thanks to this fact, their owners became more powerful and started to invest into the common sails. The power continued to increase and a shareholding company for long sailboat building was founded in 1865

Swimming and beach Orebić

The sandy beach of Trstenica is a big attraction for holidaymakers. You can find a pebble beach near the hotel and also in the bays of Perna, Kučište, Viganj westerly from Orebić. The beachside is full of vegetation providing a pleasant shade.

Yachting, windsurfing especially in a nearby village of Viganj, diving school, tennis, football, table tennis, skittle, volleyball

Cultural events and nightlife Orebić

Troupes are welcome in Orebić in the summer. Cultural performances and entertainment take place here.

16^th July is celebrated as the day of Our Lady of Carmel (Gospa od Karmena), the patroness of sailors of Pelješac.

Connection: Orebić – Dominče, Dominče - Orebić: line 634, during the season service approx. every 90 minutes both directions.

Ferry leaves every day (Mon – Sun) from Orebić – Dominče, first connection at about 00:30 in the morning and the last connection this direction at about 22:30. Departure (Dominče - Orebić), (Mon – Sun), first connection at about 00:01 – last connection at about 22:00.
